This massive coffee table is made from two sequential “bookmatched” black walnut slabs. Bookmatched black walnut slabs are amongst the most desirable slabs of wood in the world. The reason for the demand is the color, grain, and figuring are unquestionably one of the most beautiful woods you will ever see.
This particular table measured 62x32x18” and weighed a remarkable 140 pounds. Making it substantial enough to likely outlast its maker. The client who commissioned this piece also requested a matching black walnut shelf to compliment the solid black walnut legs. Finally, four contrasting walnut bow ties were added down the middle to add stability, and offer a timeless style to this top.
