Saint Helens Coffee Table
Saint Helens Coffee Table
This coffee table made from thick cut Oregon Black Walnut bookmatched burl slabs draws inspiration from the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. The mirrored grain seems to rise like smoke from one end to the other. While the color and figure seems to explode in every direction, very unique to the walnut burl. You will not find this type of grain in your average walnut slab.
The client for this particular table requested a shelf to be added below the top. So we fixed a matching black walnut shelf below, per the clients specifications. The legs themselves were also made from locally sourced straight grained Black walnut.
The finish used on this table is a common European finish. Tough enough for hardwood floors, yet soft to the touch. You can still feel the natural grain of the wood, without the plastic feel of a polyurethane.
Our Design Process:
All items are handmade in my Portland, OR studio Using reclaimed & re-purposed woods, I create each table from scratch & make each one as if I were making it for my own home. I hand select each piece of wood for it's unique grain and character, then prep and create each item with a meticulous fabrication and finishing routine until it's perfect. Each piece is made with pride and designed to reflect its own individual character. This means that each piece will be unique and there will be slight variations from the photos
